The 2009 Brick Municipal Budget

There is a paper online titled Township of Brick 2009 Municipal Budget Summary. The report makes some optimistic observations about how money has been saved by the Township. Mayor Stephen C. Acropolis is the author. He cites the percentage of municipal budget growth for each of five years starting with 2005 and ending with 2009. There was growth for all of those first four years and then a decline of -3.31% for 2009.

Savings were explained by noting that employee contributions toward health care were instituted along with self insured health benefits as opposed to fully insured health premiums. Cost neutral labor contracts were also incorporated into the budget. The budget of the township was kept within the 4% tax levy cap mandated by the State of New Jersey. Therefore there was no need to request a waiver as was the case with many other local entities.
